Root Canal Therapy in Highland Park, IL
Root Canal therapy is used to treat a tooth with nerve damage or a tooth where the nerve has died. The inside of your tooth has a soft connective tissue core like the center of a plant. Trauma and/or decay usually cause this tissue to swell and cut off the blood supply to the core. The core then dies without the nutrients from the blood and causes the body to have an immune response to the dead tissue. At this point, the tooth often becomes abscessed and painful. After a “root canal” diagnosis, the dead core is removed, and the tooth is sealed with either a filling or a crown. Patients do very well with both the treatment and results of root canal therapy. We also work closely with specialists that only perform this type of treatment.
